Seth Lakeman wurde 2005 schlagartig in den musikalischen Mainstream katapultiert, als er für sein Album „Kitty Jay“ für den Mercury Music Prize nominiert wurde. Sein Nachfolgealbum war das mit Gold ausgezeichnete „Freedom Fields“, und Seth feiert das 20-jährige Jubiläum der ursprünglichen Veröffentlichung dieses Albums mit zwei großen Tourneen im Vereinigten Königreich im Mai und Oktober 2026. „Freedom Fields“, das die Titel „Lady of the Sea“, „King and Country“ und „White Hare“ enthält, wurde 2006 zweimal veröffentlicht. Produziert von seinem Bruder Sean Lakeman erschien es zunächst bei iScream und wurde später von Relentless (EMI) erneut veröffentlicht, wo es zu Seths erstem von insgesamt sechs Top-40-Alben in Großbritannien wurde.

Freedom Fields half Seth, auf seiner traditionellen Fangemeinde aufzubauen, erschloss ihm jedoch zugleich ein ganz neues Publikum für seine rhythmische, fesselnde Art des Indie-Folk-Songwritings. 2007 wurde er bei den BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards als „Folk Singer of the Year“ ausgezeichnet, und „Freedom Fields“ erhielt den Preis als „Album of the Year“. Nach mehreren Alben, Tourneen und hochkarätigen Kooperationen veröffentlichte der gefeierte Folk-Künstler im Februar 2025 sein neuestes Studioalbum „The Granite Way“ auf seinem eigenen Label Honour Oak Records. Es handelt sich um eine Sammlung von Songs, die gemeinsam mit langjährigen Weggefährten aufgenommen wurden, dabei seinen Wurzeln treu bleiben und auf alte Geschichten Bezug nehmen, die bereits frühe Erzähltraditionen aus dem West Country auf Alben wie „Kitty Jay“ und „Freedom Fields“ inspirierten.

In den letzten Jahren wurde Seth eingeladen, am Album „Moving On Skiffle“ von Van Morrison mitzuwirken, und er arbeitete mit Public Service Broadcasting zusammen. Außerdem hat Seth in der Vergangenheit intensiv mit Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin) und dessen Band The Sensational Space Shifters zusammengearbeitet und ist mit ihnen ausgiebig auf Tour gegangen.

Seth Lakeman was catapulted into the music mainstream when he was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize in 2005 for his album 'Kitty Jay'. His follow up was the gold-selling ‘Freedom Fields’ and Seth celebrates the 20th anniversary of the original release of that album with two huge tours in the UK in May and October 2026. ‘Freedom Fields’ which includes ‘Lady of the Sea’, ‘King and Country’ and ‘White Hare’ was released twice in 2006. Produced by his brother Sean Lakeman it came out on iScream and was then re-released by Relentless (EMI) where it went on to become Seth’s first of 6 UK Top 40 albums.

Freedom Fields helped Seth build on his traditional cult following but found him a whole new audience for his rhythmic, captivating brand of indie-folk song writing. He was named Folk Singer of the Year, and ‘Freedom Fields’ awarded Album Of The Year at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards in 2007. Multiple albums, tours and high-profile collaborations later, the acclaimed folk artist released his latest studio album The Granite Way, in February 2025 on his own label, Honour Oak Records. This is a collection of songs recorded alongside a group of longtime collaborators of Seth’s, staying true to his roots and referring to ancient stories that inspired early West Country storytelling on albums like Kitty Jay and Freedom Fields.

In recent years Seth was asked to record on Van Morrison’s album ‘Moving On Skiffle’ and he collaborated with Public Service Broadcasting. Seth has also previously worked, and toured extensively, with Robert Plant (Led Zeppelin) with his band the Sensational Space Shifters.
